Are these tiles easy to cut and install?
Yes. Colamo tiles are designed for easy DIY installation. For detailed cutting and installation steps, please refer to the Colamo Tile Installation Guide.
Does this go over existing tile?
Yes! 🙋♀️Our tiles feature a rigid core and are thick enough to naturally bridge over deep grout lines.
However, try to ensure the surface is as flat as possible. If your existing tiles have texture, we recommend lightly sanding the surface.
For extra security on uneven surfaces, you can add some adhesive, like a spray adhesive to ensure proper bonding.
Before installation, use an all-purpose cleaner to remove any grease or residue. Always make sure the surface is dry and dust-free to ensure the best adhesion.
Can I install peel and stick tiles on textured walls (like orange peel)?
For best results, a smooth and flat surface is always recommended.
However, our peel and stick tiles can still be installed on lightly textured walls, such as orange peel. We’ve had many customers successfully apply them directly without sanding.
What to expect:
- Minor Gaps: On textured surfaces, you may notice that some tiles don’t sit perfectly flush—this is normal. A simple fix is to apply silicone caulk (just like grout) between the tiles. This helps fill small gaps and creates a cleaner, more finished look.
- Extra Security: If you are concerned about the wall texture affecting the bond, applying a bit of spray adhesive (such as 3M Super 77) to the wall before installation can provide extra peace of mind and ensure the tiles stay firmly in place.

While really pretty, the layout of these tiles means you are going to lose a lot of product when you need to build edges. Besides the v shapes on the bottom edges, you also have stagger steps on the sides which need to be cut off if you are coming up to a square edge. These are pretty easy to cut and quite attractive to the eye so it may be worth the waste. Whatever square footage you are planning on covering, I would add at least 20% to make sure you have enough to build the shape you need.
As to the quality, these are pretty good, fairly stiff and the usual double sided foam on the back which is extremely difficult to remove once placed.
These really are decent tiles. Mentally it’s a little bit of a struggle because of their herringbone design to figure out how to stack them appropriately but they look great. The adhesion is super strong and be warned that they may take the paint off the wall if you’re in a rental situation. They’re not hard to cut with a sharp utility knife. So much easier than mortaring/grouting traditional tiles.
These tiles are very pretty and easy to use. Watch out for needing to make cuts, the pack of the sticky tile can peel off very easily. Other than that they are great.
Beautiful, looks like real marble. Required a table saw for the best consistent straight edge cut. Took a few hours to do about 15 square feet because we have lots of funny spaces to work around. Great product, sticking just fine to our old farmhouse plaster walls.
I purchased these tiles to go over some ugly flowery pink 5x7 tiles in my kitchen backsplash. I just had to clean the existing backsplash well, and these tiles went over them with ease. They are very sticky so once they stick, they're not going anywhere. The tiles are pretty solid (they're some composite material covered in aluminum). The tile sheen is like a very very low satin, approaching matte. They are way more realistic looking than a lot of other peel and stick tiles I've seen. I've had a few people tell me "I can't believe these are peel and stick!"
A couple caveats:
1. They say you don't need grout. This is technically true, but I would highly recommend it. In my third picture you can see the tile above the electrical conduit is grouted, and the tile below is not. Herringbone is, by default, a pattern that requires you to make a lot more cuts, so you'd most likely need to cut and fit some individual tiles, and it can be hard to line them up perfectly. (And remember I said that once tie tiles are stuck, they are STUCK.) Grouting gives a much more finished look, and covers all manner of sins. I followed advice from some other reviews, and used caulking as "grout", working it into the joints with a grout float and my fingers. Then I used a damp high density sponge to wipe away the excess (same as you'd do for grouting real tiles) and let it fully dry. Then sprayed a little Krud Kutter and wiped with a damp rag to remove any haze.
2. They also say in the instructions for the tile that you can cut the tile sheets with a construction knife or scissors. This is pretty much a lie. After 3 brand new blades on my construction knife, I was still unable to cut these without way way WAY too much effort. Instead I ended up using 20 gauge long handle straight tin snips (they look like giant heavy scissors) and it cut sooooo much easier. And man did I need to make so.many.cuts 😭
And lastly, not a caveat, but just a tip: since it's a herringbone, everything's at 45 degrees. My self-healing cutting mat came in super handy when trying to draw my cut lines on the tiles and ensuring they were still at the correct angle. The mat has lots of lines drawn on it that you can use to line up the tiles and draw your cut lines.
Anyway, overall, really happy with the way this turned out!
